Clearing the cache is important for the health of your computer so that it runs smoothly. The cache itself can be junk files generated by certain programs, both system and user (correct me if I’m wrong). Accumulated cache can cause your computer to slow down. So, how do you clear the cache on Windows 10? Let’s take a good look.

1. Windows 10 Update Cache

To clear the Windows 10 update cache, you need to go to “File Explorer” and from the view menu, check the “Show hidden folders” box. Then go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download.

Once you are in the “Download” folder, delete all its contents. This is an easy and simple way to clear the update cache on the Windows operating system.

2. Windows Store Cache

To clear the cache from the Windows Store, you need to go to the Start menu and open the Run window or press Windows Key+R. Then type WSReset.exe and click OK.

The Windows Store will appear, and a command prompt will also open. The command prompt has no text. It will clear the cache in the background. When all the cache has finished clearing, the command prompt will automatically close.

3. Windows Temporary Files Cache

Open the start menu or press the Windows key and type “Disk Cleanup” then press enter or select Disk Cleanup. A window will appear asking you what drive you want to clean up. Select the required disk from the list and press “OK”.

Wait a moment for the scanning or analysis process.

After analyzing, it will show a window asking you to delete the selected files. Then check the temporary files checkbox, press “Ok” and then the cache will be deleted.

If a new window appears, just select Delete. This method will delete the temporary files in your Windows 10.

4. Windows Browser Cache (Edge, Chrome, Firefox)

To clear your browser cache, go to the start menu and type “Internet Options” and open it. There you will see an option to clear your browser’s browsing history. Select it and press “OK”.

5. Windows Thumbnail Cache

Go to the Start menu and go to “File explorer” and check the “show hidden folders” checkbox and make them visible. And now go to C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer.

And select all files that start with the word thumbcache and permanently delete them by pressing Shift + delete.

6. Windows Icon Cache

Go to the Start menu and go to “File explorer” and check the “show hidden folders” checkbox and make them visible. And now go to C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local. Now delete the hidden file Iconcache.db. And after deleting the file, restart your Windows operating system. Your Windows Icon Cache will be deleted.

Or you can go to C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer.

And select all files that start with iconcache and permanently delete them by pressing Shift + delete.

Final Words

That’s how to clear the cache in Windows 10. You can also use third-party software to clear the cache, such as CCleaner.
